Located just ten miles southwest of the city of Winston-Salem is the charming little village of Clemmons. The city's namesake, a merchant named Peter Clemmons, founded the village in 1802. Peter owned a store in the area and built the first bridge across the nearby Yadkin River. The home he lived in with his wife and their fourteen children still stands today. Later, under the guidance of the village founder's great grandson Edwin, the village became a hub for stagecoach transportation until the coming of the railroad. The pride of Edwin's fleet, a nine-passenger coach that he named after his wife, has been fully restored and can be seen in the Clemmons Village Hall. The Clemmons of today is a bustling little village of nearly 19,000 people. It's a convenient commute to nearby Winston-Salem just down I-40. Coupled with its convenient location, small-town charm, low unemployment, and rich history, Clemmons neighborhoods have continued to flourish.
